Tolan is an independent consultancy offering senior-level database and application expertise, delivered directly and without intermediaries.
The practice is led by Tom Churchward, a database specialist and developer with over 30 years of hands-on experience across Oracle, PostgreSQL, and bespoke application development. That experience spans large enterprise environments through to smaller organisations, legacy systems through to modern architectures — and covers both the design of new systems and the diagnosis of problems in production ones.
Based in the south of France and working with clients across Europe, the focus is consistently on practical, production-ready outcomes: systems that perform reliably, are well understood, and can be maintained without dependency on any single vendor or framework.
Work is carried out personally. Clients engage with the specialist who does the work — there are no handoffs, no account managers, and no junior staff on billable hours.
